5 Tried & True MUA Tips

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

SHHHhhhhh don't tell anyone that I'm giving away my top 5 tips that took years to learn!! Matter fact, you can tell them, but make them subscribe to my blog first! Today we are going to run through the most basic, but TRIED & TRUE makeup tips! Don't you worry your pretty little self, these tips are quick and easy, even for my makeup-challenged peeps ;)

Amazon Tip: Only buy from trusted vendors, buying from the wrong vendor will leave you disappointed. My links are to the trusted vendors!

Before we begin, let me just get this out of the way, practicing self care each and every day is truly the gift that keeps on giving! When you take care of your mind and body - it shows. Our skin is a tell-tale sign of what's going on in the inside. My tips, products, and tools will achieve an immediate result, but nothing will make a lasting impression on your mind, body, and skin like your commitment to healthy eating, stress reduction, sufficient sleep, and exercise. Ok-ok mini lecture over!

5 MUA Tips

  1. Skin Prep Product Absorption: I know that many of us do our makeup in such a hurried frenzy that we skip and combine steps. Let your skin prep fully absorb into your skin. Whether it be your moisturizer or actual primer, it's all the same. What happens when you don't? You get that rolly-polly-film-thing going on your face which keeps your coverage from a smooth landing. If you don't have time to absorb, then you may as well skip this step and just add your face coverage. And I mean it!!!! lol ^Product: In Transit Camera Close-Up moisturizer and primer in one.

  2. Setting Spray before Setting Powder: Once I've got my coverage, concealer, and contour in place I will spritz my setting spray once or twice all over my face. This will melt all the face makeup together! I let the setting spray dry completely, then go under my eyes and t-zone with my setting powder. You can do another spritz to complete the look! ^Product: Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray or for a more affordable option NYX Pro Matte Setting Spray. Setting Powder: IT Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

  3. Blot Your Lipstick then Reapply: After your first coat of lipstick, take a tissue/napkin blot out the excess product. Go back to reapply another layer of lipstick. You will be surprised at how well this works. ^Product: Revlon Ultra Mousse Liquid Lipstick I will never not share this affordable gem of a product. If you read my blogs you know.

  4. Brushes: Makeup brushes matter! Not all brushes are made equally. Choosing a good brand will automatically help with your makeup application. Don't underestimate the power of great makeup brushes. ^Product: Real Techniques Face & Cheeks Brush Set & Real Techniques Eye Set

  5. Brush Grip w/Delicate Movements: Holding your makeup brushes like a pencil, closest to the brush, while using a heavy hand to apply your makeup are the most common mistakes I notice when I do my one-on-one makeup lessons. A heavy hand will lead to over blending. You don't want to move that beautiful concealer and foundation you just applied! Grab that brush at the end furthest from the brush to automatically create a lighter touch. Then let the makeup brushes do the job they were designed to do! Brushes were designed to BUILD & BLEND. ^For Example, let's discuss the cheeks! Grab your blush brush toward the end (not like a pencil) and lightly add the color to the fullest part of your cheek, then with the brush focus on blurring the edges of the color placement. The color will stay where it's suppose to and you will have created a beautiful gradient effect, for a seamless application of blush!
