Beauty Sleep

ARE YOU GETTING IT?!

Getting "your beauty sleep" is not just a popular saying. It is real! When we sleep, our bodies go through a series of restorative processes that are essential for maintaining our vitality and appearance. ALSO the positions and way we sleep impacts our skin. Ever noticed creases on your chest and lines on your face when you wake up?!? Over time that prematurely ages us ... :'(

Yes aging is inevitable, but if your like me and you're doing your darnedest to slow it down, keep reading!

1. Skin Rejuvenation

During deep sleep stages, your body increases blood flow to your skin, allowing it to repair and regenerate. This process can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes. Additionally, the body produces collagen, a protein responsible for skin elasticity, which helps maintain a youthful complexion.

2. Dark Circles and Puffiness

Lack of sleep can lead to under-eye circles and puffiness. When you're sleep-deprived, blood vessels under your eyes can dilate, causing the skin to appear darker and puffier. A good night's sleep helps reduce these issues. A new product fave to minimize puffiness is Innisfree Caffeine Bright Eye Serum. One of my lovely clients recommended, so I bought, and I love!!

3. Hair and Nail Health

Beauty rest is not just about skincare; it also affects your hair and nails. While you sleep, your body repairs and replenishes cells, promoting hair and nail growth. A lack of sleep can lead to brittle nails and dull hair.

Beauty sleep Tips

If you want to experience the benefits of beauty rest, here are some tips to improve your skin's renewal process while you sleep:

  1. Cleanse your face: Always always remove all the dirt, oil, makeup, and pollution from your skin before bed. I like to pre-cleanse with a balm and then use a gentle cleanser as the closer! Fun fact. If you thoroughly washed your face the evening before no need to wash again in the morning! Keep those good oils on your skin.

  2. Moisturize: Add a layer of moisture to your face, neck, chest, lips, and/or body. Don't skip those lips 💋

  3. Protect your hair and skin:  Consider purchasing a satin or silk pillowcase to add to your beauty arsenal. Silk absorbs less moisture than other popular bedding materials like cotton. Skin will retain more moisture, through the night. Silk is also less likely to absorb your moisturizers or serums. These benefits extend to your hair as well.

  4. Sleeping on your back: Start sleeping on your back. I know?! What sort of blasphemy do I speak of?! Yes when you sleep on your face and/or one side of your face - you ARE causing MORE and DEEPER wrinkles. You will read in quite a bit of my "Prep & Post Care" about how sleeping impacts your beauty service results as well.

Prioritize sleep, and the way you sleep, so you'll wake up feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to face the day with a radiant glow.

The Connection Between Sleep and Mental Health

Beyond its impact on physical appearance, beauty rest is closely linked to mental well-being. A night of quality sleep can significantly affect your mood, stress levels, and cognitive function. When you're well-rested, you're more likely to feel happier, be more focused, and make better decisions.
